ndia had been following the ‘Macaulay’s Education System’ imposed by the British Government in 1835 for more than 188 years now. This system was imposed after destroying the Gurukul Education System and the British could successfully implement the English system of education. This system was basically implemented to produce more and more and more workers for the British Government. Thanks to Lord Thomas Babington Macaulay, who designed this system and got it approved by the British parliament in the form of English Education Act 1935. From this point The Indian’s were introduced to the Western system of education This system was so carefully designed by the Britishers that the whole idea of this system of education was not intellectual development of the Indians but to produce more and more workers for the industries businesses established by the British Government in India. The Macaulay’s Education System was a great success as more and moreIndians flocked to their schools and their jobs.
Most of the syllabus taught in this system of education was of mediocre type, especially Mathematics what is taught in our schools today is the European approach and the whole idea of this system is to make the Indians believe that the English Education System is the supreme education system and their approach of Mathematics and Science is the ultimate approach and make Indian follow it. The degraded the Indians to the core and they started believing that the English System supreme. For 188 years this pattern has been going on in the minds of Indians and hence Vedic Mathematics is not implemented in our schools, despite the powerful system of Mathematics.
Vedic Math or Vedic Mathematics is a collection of Method or Sutra to solve numerical computation quickly and faster. Vedic Math is the name given to the ancient system of Indian Mathematics which was rediscovered from the Vedas between 1911-1918. According to his research all of Mathematics is based on sixteen Sutras or word formulae and forteen sub-sutras. For example ‘Vertically and Crosswise’ is one of these Sutras. These formulae describe the way the mink naturally works and are therefore a great help in directing the students to the appropriate method of solution. The Sutras describe mental processes by correlating the sixteen Vedic Math Sutras with natural mental Functions observable by any one.
Vedic Math introduced by Bharati Krishna Tirtha, who was the Shankarachrya at Puri in his book of the same name. It contains a set of mental calculation tricks which he claims to be based on the Vedas. The present study aimed to study the effect of Vedic Math on achievement in algebra among adolescents with respect to different levels of intelligence. The study revealed that the mean score of the experimental group is greater than the controlled group, which proves the Vedic Math is more effective than conventional methods. The technique can be more useful for hgh intelligence groups and average intelligence groups. This study also indicates that there was no significant difference in the gain scores on achievement in mathematics due to the interactional effect of the instructional strategies and intelligence. Technique of the Vedic Math is very helpful in competitive exams where learners have to solve lengthy mathematical problems in a short span of time.
PURPOSE OF VEDIC MATHS:
Vedic Math, a simple arithmetic and algebraic operations, and has increasingly found acceptance the world over. Vedic Math helps find solutions in a single or a few steps whereas conventional methods require multiple steps.
Vedic math eases and simplifies multiplication, divisibility, complex number, squaring, cubing, square and cube roots. Even recurring decimals and auxiliary fractions can be handled by Vedic Maths.
